Hello NE friends! Here’s the latest news for Nebraska chess players.

1. Tournament for High School Seniors – June 13, chess.com

All High School Seniors are eligible for a free online tournament at chess.com, run by US Chess. Prizes include free US Chess membership renewals and a $1500 college scholarship for the tournament winner.

2. The US Open and Delegates Meeting have been cancelled for 2020. The five invitational events – the Denker, Barber, Rockefeller, Haring, and Senior – have also been cancelled, although it is likely that they will be run online. Details on this to follow, but it is the current opinion of the NSCA board that we will nominate the top rated players in each category who are interested in playing the events.

3. There are two weekly online blitz events for NE players.

Monday nights, 8pm – Lichess – join the Nebraska Players team for information.
Thursday nights, 7:30pm – Chess.com – join the Nebraska Players team for information.

4. There may be an online US Chess rated tournament for NE players later this month. Check nebraskachess.com for details in the coming weeks.

Hope you all are staying safe and working on your chess while you continue to socially distance.
